The TV usually comes first. It is bought, carried home and set on whatever is there: the old stand, a stool, the box it came in. The stand comes after, and the first question is how wide it should be.
Here are the sizes and the prices, so you can plan with a tape measure before you speak to anyone.
How wide should the stand be for your TV?
At least as wide as the TV, and a little wider looks settled. A TV is sold by the diagonal of its screen, so the width takes a small sum. For the usual 16:9 shape, the screen is roughly:
- 32-inch, about 71 cm wide
- 43-inch, about 95 cm
- 50-inch, about 111 cm
- 55-inch, about 122 cm
- 65-inch, about 144 cm
These are approximate, and the frame adds a little. Check the width in your TV's own specification before you buy a stand.
Which of our units suits which TV
- Up to 43 inches. The Starter, 98 cm wide and 42 cm tall, Ksh 6,500.
- 50 and 55 inches. A Wide Base, 142 cm wide, Ksh 8,000. It is a single low unit, and you can price it in our builder.
- 65 inches and up. Wider than any single unit. Two Starters side by side make about 2 m. Three make a run 3.00 m long, in Charcoal, Ksh 19,500.
Where two units meet, each has its own top, so check where the TV's feet will land.
How tall, and how deep?
Sit where you watch and look straight ahead. The middle of the screen should be close to where your eyes fall. From a low sofa that usually means a low stand; from a dining chair, a taller one.
The Starter's top is 42 cm from the floor. The Low Console, three tiers in Charcoal, is 72 cm, Ksh 12,000. Each tier adds 30 cm and a shelf.
Depth matters more than people expect. A TV standing on its own feet needs a top at least as deep as its feet. Our standard units are 28 cm deep. The Deep units are 45 cm deep: a Deep Base is 142 cm wide, Ksh 14,500 in the builder. Measure the feet from front to back, or ask us.
If the TV hangs on the wall, depth stops mattering for the TV, and the unit below is for the decoder, the speakers and the rest.
What does a TV stand cost in Kenya?
Listings on Jiji mostly ask Ksh 4,999 to 7,500 for a TV stand.

Open shelves or a cabinet?
A cabinet hides things. Open shelves let the remote reach the decoder without opening a door, and our units have no back, so cables drop straight down behind them.
The honest cost is dust: open shelves need wiping more often. For what you would rather not see, a basket on the lower shelf does the job of a door.
A stand that can grow into a wall
Our shelves are modular, which means they are made of separate parts that stack together. Start with one low unit under the TV. Later you can add a tower beside it for books, or stack more on top if the TV moves to the wall. Each unit on top of a Starter adds 30 cm and a shelf, Ksh 5,500.
